Small and painful blisters that are filled with fluid, which develop on the face are known as cold sores. They are caused by a virus. Cold sores are very painful and last for a few days. Famvir

Famciclovir, commercially sold as Famvir, is an antiviral drug used for the treatment of cold sores and shingles. It works by slowing down the growth and spread of herpes virus in the body and helps the body to combat the infection. Famvir not only treats herpes virus, but also reduces the symptoms of the same. Famvir is used to treat a number of health conditions such as genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox.

Valtrex

Valtrex is used to treat different types of herpes viruses, and this includes genital herpes, cold sores and shingles. Though Valtrex does not cure herpes, it helps you to decrease the existence of regular outbreaks. You should tell your doctor before taking Valtrex, if you are suffering from HIV/AIDS, kidney problems or a weak immune system.

You should not take the above sexual health treatments if you are pregnant of breastfeeding. These drugs might pass in to breast milk and can affect your baby. Never take these medicines without a prescription. Store them at room temperature, away from heat and light. Do not store these medications in the bathroom. Patients under 18 years of age should not use it.

You may experience mild side effects such as headache, sleeplessness, burning, inflammation, pain during sexual intercourse and burning. I got a cold sore (due to fever) on Thursday. The blister has disappeared. I have a date with my boyfriend on Tuesday, it is an important date to us and I think he may want to kiss me. So, my hopes are that the virus isn’t contagious anymore. He does know that I had a cold sore in the past week. Does anyone know how long does it take the cold sore virus to leave your body after it has healed?

If you are also wondering this, then here is a response to this question: Cold sores are caused by the virus known as herpes simplex type I (HSV-1). After the first episode of the disease, the virus lies dormant in the nerves or skin around the original area until something sets the virus off into another eruption. Colds, flu, and even stress can cause you to have an outbreak of cold sores. Why you have an outbreak at one time of life and not another is not clearly understood.

You always have the virus. The virus never leaves the body; it just becomes inactive until it breaks out again. It is the Herpes virus. Peroxide on a Q tip helps doctor it out quicker. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 and will never be gone from your body but will lie dormant until something such as infection or stress causes another outbreak to recur.

In the absence of a cold sore one may also transmit the virus through the skin. Oral herpes lesions typically occur on the lips, on the fixed mucosa inside the mouth, including the hard palate and gums, but can occur almost anywhere on the face. Aciclovir cream like zovirax has a drug in it which helps kill the virus

FOR HEAD CONGESTION:

-Use a saline nasal spray

-Place a drop or two of either eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil on a cotton ball or handkerchief and hold near the nose while breathing deeply.
FOR CHEST CONGESTION

-Drink orange tea. Or eat lemon and honey just doesn’t add too much lemon, will make your milk sour.

-Put some vapor rub on your feet with socks, on your chest, back, and throat.
FOR SORE THROAT AND COUGH

-Drink hot water lemon and honey

-Salt water gargle:
Mix a 1 tablespoon of salt in eight ounces of warm water. Gargle the whole mixture (don’t swallow) several times a day.

If you get cold sores you have the herpes virus in your body. It will stay in your body for all your life as well as with the antibodies that fight it. The body uses antibodies to naturally fight the virus. Most of the time they are effective when it comes to preventing an outbreak, but sometimes they need some help.

The HSV-1 virus which causes cold sores is very contagious it can be spread to others even if the infected person does not have a cold sore. However the risk is higher when there are active cold sores, especially in the weeping stage. When you get an outbreak avoid physical contact, touching can spread the virus to other parts of the body.

Wash your hands with soap very often. Rub the area with alcohol to keep it sanitary. Kissing or oral sex can spread the virus to other people. Personal items such as toothbrushes, glasses, utensils, towels and napkins can spread the virus if they are shared.

A cold sore usually breaks out when your immune system is compromised. Illness, a cold, the flu and a sore throat could trigger them. This is where the term cold sore or fever blisters come from. Exposure to the elements such as the sun, stress, blemish, pimple, runny nose and even the menstrual cycle can trigger cold sores.

They are vitamins and supplements that can suppress the reproduction of the virus and hence prevent triggering cold sores. It is also possible to prevent them before they actually start by keeping your lips hydrated all the time, staying away from sun exposure and try not to allow yourself to become too tired.

Due to the fact that it is a viral infection, nowadays there are antiviral treatments that can be quite effective for treatment. It is important that the treatment is applied as soon as possible time is of the essence. Antiviral creams need to be applied four to five times a day to be effective. In severe cases tablets can be prescribed to fight the cold sores.
